Privacy Policy
HookPoint is built and operated by Votique LLC(“HookPoint,” “we,” “us”). This policy explains what data the HookPoint iOS app collects, why, where it goes, and what control you have over it. Plain-English version is below the formal version, in the same words we’d use to a friend.
1. Summary
- We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or marketing SDKs.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
- Your catch log, photos, and notes stay on your device by default.
- The data we do receive (location, photos sent to fish ID, support emails) is used only to deliver the feature you asked for.
- You can delete every byte we have by removing the app and emailing VotiqueLLC@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
2.1 On-device only (never sent to us)
- Catch log entries — species, photo, notes, location, weight, and time you record.
- App preferences — language, units, skill level, home state, and home water body.
- Trial state — when your free trial began (stored in the iOS Keychain).
These live in the app’s sandbox on your iPhone. They are not synced to a HookPoint server. They are not backed up to our cloud. iCloud Backup, if enabled by you in iOS Settings, is between you and Apple — we have no access to it.
2.2 Sent to us briefly to deliver a feature
- Approximate location (latitude / longitude) — sent to our weather provider to fetch conditions for your spot. Used in the request, not retained on our servers.
- Photos you submit to fish ID — sent to our AI provider to identify the species. Not retained by us. The AI provider’s retention policy is governed by their own privacy notice.
- Questions you type into “Ask HookPoint” — sent to our AI provider to generate a reply. Not retained by us.
- Subscription state — Apple tells us whether you have an active subscription. We do not see your card or your full Apple ID.
2.3 Sent to us only if you contact support
- Email content — what you write to VotiqueLLC@gmail.com, plus any logs or screenshots you choose to attach.
3. What we do not collect
- No third-party analytics or product telemetry SDKs (no Mixpanel, Amplitude, Segment, etc.).
- No advertising IDs (IDFA, IDFV) and no Apple App Tracking Transparency prompt — we don’t track across apps or sites.
- No social-graph data. There is no friends list, no leaderboard, no public profile.
- No precise location history. We use your location at request time and don’t store a trail.
4. Permissions HookPoint asks for
- Camera — to take photos of fish for AI identification. Asked once, when you first tap Fish ID.
- Photo Library — only if you choose to pick an existing photo to identify, or save a catch photo to your library.
- Location (While Using App) — to find nearby spots, fetch local weather, and detect your state for fishing rules.
- Notifications — only if you opt in. Used for daily Go/No-Go reminders and trial-related notices. Never marketing.
You can revoke any of these in iOS Settings › HookPoint at any time.
5. Service providers
HookPoint uses a small number of third-party services to deliver core features. We pick providers with privacy stances that match ours and we send them the minimum data needed.
- Apple WeatherKit — weather and forecast data. Receives an approximate location at request time.
- U.S. National Weather Service (NOAA) — backup weather provider when WeatherKit is unavailable. Receives an approximate location at request time.
- aimlapi.com — the AI gateway that powers fish identification, “Ask HookPoint”, and fishing-rules summaries. Receives the prompt or photo for the request, not your identity.
- State agency websites — when you tap a regulation source link, you are taken to the agency’s own site. Their privacy practices apply once you leave HookPoint.
- Apple App Store / StoreKit — billing and subscription management. Apple holds your payment data, not us.
6. Children
HookPoint is rated 4+ but is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that resulted in personal information being sent to us, email us and we will delete it.
7. Your rights
You have the right to know what we have about you, request a copy, request deletion, and ask us to correct anything wrong. Because we don’t maintain user accounts, the deletion process is short:
- Delete the app on your iPhone — that wipes everything stored on-device.
- Email VotiqueLLC@gmail.com with “Delete my data” in the subject line — we will confirm in writing within 30 days that any support correspondence on our side has been deleted.
Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Virginia, and the European Economic Area have additional rights under applicable law (CCPA, CPA, CTDPA, UCPA, VCDPA, GDPR). Exercise them by emailing the address above.
8. Security
All requests to our service providers are TLS-encrypted in transit. The AI gateway API key is stored XOR-obfuscated in the app binary and cached in the iOS Keychain. We do not run our own server with your personal data on it.
9. International transfers
Our AI gateway operates in the United States. If you use the app from outside the U.S., the prompt or photo crosses an international border in transit. By using HookPoint, you consent to that transfer for the purpose of delivering the feature you requested.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, the new effective date appears at the top. Material changes will also be announced in the app’s release notes for the version that introduces them.
